What makes this recipe the best is its texture and flavor. The heavy cream creates a soft, creamy base that freezes without becoming icy. The Nutella brings that rich, chocolate-hazelnut taste thatβs familiar and indulgent. Itβs quick to prepare, easily customizable, and always a hit at the table.

Ingredients
You will need the following ingredients to make this Nutella Ice Cream Recipe:

Ingredient Notes
- Nutella - This is the star ingredient. It provides the signature hazelnut chocolate flavor. While you can purchase Nutella, I have tested and fallen in love with other brands like Milka. Any chocolate hazelnut spread will be fine in this recipe.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk - Sweetened condensed milk adds built-in sweetness, a creamy texture, and helps prevent iciness. Unlike whole milk, which contains a lot of water, condensed milk creates a rich, scoopable consistency without the need for an ice cream maker.
- Heavy Cream - Note that this is not whipping cream. When testing, I found that using whipping cream created a lighter texture and more iciness to the ice cream when frozen.
See the recipe card for quantities.
Variations:
- Nutella Swirl - Swirl in some extra Nutella before freezing.
- Chopped Hazelnuts - Swirl these into the ice cream before freezing.
- Banana - Our perfect pairing in our home. Chop the banana into small bites and swirl it into the ice cream before freezing. You can also blend the banana and add that to the chocolate base before freezing.
- Espresso - Stir in a teaspoon of espresso. It will lift the chocolate flavor of the Nutella.
- Sea Salt - Another perfect pairing. Top the ice cream with flaky sea salt before freezing.
- Chocolate Chips - Swirl these, or another chip of your choice, into the ice cream before freezing. Try a drizzle of melted chips on the top of the ice cream!

- Cover the ice cream after it has set in the freezer so it doesn't pick up unwanted odors.
Confidence Tip
Do you want those beautiful ribbons of Nutella in your ice cream? Reserve a couple of spoonfuls and swirl them in after you pour the base into the loaf pan. Swirl with a knife or spoon without mixing it much.
These Pistachio Muffins could be repurposed as an ice cream sandwich base or even crumbled over the top! I also considered making the Dark Chocolate Truffles and breaking them up to use inside the ice cream. How fun would that be?
