Aloha! We are back in our Hawaii home for the next few weeks and soooo happy we are not in the cold and snow. I know what you are thinking. Hawaii home? Yes. It's home, as is Colorado and Illinois. We are happiest when we are in the mountains, and the water is just a bonus.
What's Happening
Before I launch into what is happening with us, I just want to express my deepest sympathies to those families affected by the airplane crash in D.C. How horrific. Our hearts have been in our throats since.
One of our sons went to school in D.C and lived there afterward for 5 years. We flew in and out of Reagan National several times a year and have also been to the air base where the helicopter flew out of. We know the area well.
We landed back on the island Tuesday night. Stepping off the plane into warm, humid air was fantastic. This week has been a bit slow so far. Between setting up the condo and a full day of rain (including no electricity or water for part of the day), we have just been relaxing and getting settled.
Beau Bridges, pictured below, and his wife were on our flight from LAX. He and his wife live on the island as much as possible. We saw them last year in a restaurant eating dinner. Funny....they flew coach, his wife is as far removed from the Real Housewives as you can get (think no makeup and tennis shoes), and they seem pretty nice.
We had a chance to go to our favorite bakery twice. Hubby loves their Nutella latte as much as he loves the one he gets at home. I just love their scones. They are not gluten-free but staying gluten-free in Hawaii is super hard. I'm lucky I don't have celiac or an allergy as we would be eating every meal in the condo. For me it's a preference, and I try to stay as far away as I can but the Hawaiian culture is Asian focused. There is soy sauce in everything, lol.
Friday night, we had dinner with some local friends. It's always nice to catch up since it has been just over a year. We also ran into friends that we have a home both here and back in Illinois. We have dinner plans with them on Monday night.
So that is it for the first few days we are here. We are just walking, relaxing, and drinking in the Hawaiian culture.
