Get ready to quench your thirst and tickle your taste buds with this wonderfully Refreshing Watermelon Agua Fresca Recipe! This irresistible beverage combines the juiciness of ripe watermelon, cold pure water, and just a touch of sugar to create a symphony of flavors that will dance on your palate. Embrace the magic of summer in every sip as you indulge in this drink that captures the very essence of the season.

This recipe for agua fresca is actually delicious any time of year, however, my favorite is when watermelon starts to peak in late summer and early fall. I have sometimes heard this called watermelon water instead of agua fresca!
This was inspired by our bi-weekly trip to a Mexican restaurant and they serve this watermelon water that is delicious!

How To Make Watermelon Water
Cut the watermelon and place it into a blender.
Add the water.
Add the sugar.
Pour into a glass. Garnish with watermelon and mint. Enjoy!
Hint: I like to use a high-speed blender, and this is the one that I have. However, a hand blender is fine to use. Just blend the watermelon in batches.
Ways to Change up this Agua Fresca Recipe
There are a few ways to change up this recipe:
- Sugar - You do not need to add sugar at all. Or, you can use sugar substitutes like monk fruit, allulose, or erythritol (which are my favorites). Just understand that the substitute is not 1:1. Blend the watermelon and the water first before adding the sugar substitute so it is to taste.
- Lime - I like to add a squeeze of lime into this recipe from time to time. It adds a wonderful citrus note and amps up the watermelon flavor.
- Salt - If I am especially thirsty, I will add a touch of sea salt to this recipe. The salt will bring out the watermelon flavor and help quench your thirst.
- Fruit - You can easily substitute other fruit in this recipe. Try strawberry, which is the original flavor, pineapple, raspberry, or any flavor that you wish!

How to Store Watermelon Agua Fresca
This recipe is best made the day you are serving it. It will become a touch "funky" if left in the refrigerator overnight.
Top tip
Make sure all of your ingredients are already cold so that the resulting drink comes out chilled. You can continue to chill the beverage for a few hours if you desire.

Refreshing Watermelon Agua Fresca Recipe
Equipment
- 1 Blender
Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- 2 cups watermelon chopped
- ⅓ cups sugar
- small watermelon wedges for garnish
- mint sprigs for garnish
Instructions
- Add all of the ingredients except the garnishes to a blender.
- Blend for up to 1 minute.
- Using a big spoon, lightly skim the top of the liquid in the blender to remove any foam.
- Pour into a glass and garnish.
Notes
- You can use sugar substitutes for this recipe. Blend without the sugar first and then add the sugar to taste. You won't want to swap them out equally, so test, test, test.
- Some foam after blending is fine, but some of the foam may look strange. So, I remove anything I don't like so it looks nicer.
- If you want a stronger flavor, add more watermelon but keep the water amounts the same.
- If you want a more citrus kick, Add the juice of one lime.
- Do not make this too far in advance. The taste will change. It's best eaten the day you make it.
