People often ask me, “Is this really your job?” They’re always surprised when I tell them it’s full-time. And while I absolutely love it, I have to be careful not to let it turn into a 7-day-a-week gig. Trust me, it can get all-consuming at times! Right now, it’s about 80% computer work and only 20% of what I love most—developing recipes and getting messy in the kitchen! I’m dreaming of flipping that ratio. 🙏🏼
What's Happening
As you can see from the pictures, our primary bedroom is torn apart and down to the studs. They have installed the new bathroom plywood for the walls, and the electric and plumbing have begun.
Our garage was a total mess. It was like this for over a week but they finally hauled away the trash and it's super clean and easy to move around in again. We can't use it for the cars but we can go through our garage to get to the cars.
While I love my husband, sleeping in a smaller bed in one of the kids bedrooms isn't ideal. We are getting through the chaos each day. The dogs love going to daycare and it's super helpful to have them gone while construction is ongoing. Sam comes home and sleeps the night away, lol.
I'm not going to lie, there have been some really stressful days. This past Thursday I dropped the dogs at daycare and came home thinking I was going to be able to work at my desk. Not.
First, the fire alarm went off because the electrician forgot to cover it with plastic while he was creating dust. Then the plumber decided to use our toilet and stopped it up with too much toilet paper overflowing the toilet onto our wood floor. Yep, the plumber!
Our contractor found it when he showed up a bit later. Thankfully the floor was going to be repaired and re-stained anyway. Once we cleaned it up we ended up having an almost two hour meeting which resulted in moving walls, planning the electrical, and getting the plumbing set.
I was cooked from the stress but ended up having a really nice dinner with friends that evening.
My brother and sister-in-law were around and staying with us until Wednesday. We had a lot of fun together and it was wonderful spending time with them. So, the honest truth is that I didn't have time to work in the kitchen and create new recipes this week. I took the week off but there are wonderful recipes on the blog!
Links And Products I Am Loving
Amazon is back with it's Prime Days once again! I've listed a few items I love as well as other links. Just a heads up....Target, Walmart, and Wayfair are also running sales this week!
- If you love espresso like I do, this Breville Espresso Machine is deeply discounted!
- You may need a heavy-duty potato ricer to make your mashed potatoes. This is one I recommend.
- Rice Cooker anyone? This is a top-rated 6 cup capacity rice cooker on sale!
- Need a new Crock-Pot? The 7-Quart Slow Cooker is a steal.
- I love reading on a Kindle when I travel; however, I really didn't like the Paperwhite Kindle. I felt like I was turning pages all day long and it didn't give me the real feel of a book. So I bought a Kindle Scribe last year and I will tell you I am obsessed. Why? It's the same size as my Ipad but much lighter and easier to travel with. I feel like I am reading a real book!
- A list of the best self-help books. I have read more than a few of these!
- Can we talk all about Ina Garten? I think I own all of her cookbooks. She published her memoir this week and I have this in my cart to purchase! This cookbook was one of my favorite cookbooks of all of her books.
- My son loves his Oura Ring. Do you have one?
- I have been using my Mom's old Magic Bullet that must be 15 years old. I'm looking for a new one and I might pull the trigger on this Nutribullet this week!
- I just replaced my old Pyrex measuring cups with these.
- While not on an early sale for Amazon, I love these products and highly recommend them! Once For All Safe Mandolin, Dash electric egg cooker, Zulay Milk Frother, and the Rubbermaid Brilliance containers.
