Aloha and Mahalo Nui. We are headed back to Chicago today and back into the cold and snow. I'm really not ready. It has been beautiful and warm here in Hawaii.
What's Happening
Our mornings are spent walking a minimum of 2 miles. We either walk a trail at the ocean or walk to grab our morning coffee all while listening to the roosters waking us up.
Yesterday we walked the trail on the ocean and then headed to a local beach to watch the families swim and surfers tackle the waves. Lunch was at a new place that had delicious burgers and was celebrating 50 years in business. Crazy! It's extremely relaxing and re-energizing here. The whales are jumping in the ocean and the wildlife is amazing.
I have been working just a little each day to make sure that my posts are going out and that you have an opportunity to see them. Normally I would shop more than we have and I would be able to give you more links from here than I have. I'm sorry about that.
The food has been superb. There are several wonderful restaurants on the island and many delicious food trucks. I know I told you about the sushi truck but we also love this one called Shakalafel, which is an amazing Israeli food truck.
We also have a favorite bakery here called Ko Bakery. The scones, especially the lilikoi white chocolate scone, are to die for. We are bringing a few back home and I will miss them!
The highlight of this visit was a trip out to Common Ground. Common Ground is a regenerative farm and after touring the farm, we had the chance to have dinner. Everything we ate for dinner, down to the spices, was all foraged or created from the farm. It was sooo yummy.
Of course, the poke is amazing here . Hubby's favorite truck is the Belgian waffle truck near us called Liege Waffles. The waffles have cinnamon and a vanilla syrup drizzled on top before they add fruit, nuts, seasoned whipped cream and more.
Links And Products I Am Loving
- I love this list of Trader Joe's customer favorites! Which one is yours? And, I love this one, What Chefs Buy at Trader Joes.
- This is a good way to declutter the kitchen.
- I am an ardent fan of Butcher Box. I order meat that is grass-fed and grass finished and it tastes delicious! They are currently offering FREE meat or salmon for a year!
- I also love Fine & Raw chocolate! They are currently offering a 15% discount to try their products. The chocolate butters are amazing!
- Here in Hawaii my favorite chocolate is Lydgate Farms chocolate. They are a bean to bar small company that grows cacao in Hawaii. Their macadamia nuts are my favorites and they are the only company in Hawaii that uses both chocolate and mac's from Hawaii. The other larger companies import their nuts or the chocolate or both.
Recipes
In honor of all the snow we have at home, I'm sharing soups that will become your new bestie in the kitchen. All of these soups are simple to prepare and have a punch of flavor!
