This weekend feels like the unofficial start of summer—grills are heating up, garden centers are bustling, and the longer days are drawing us outside. But amidst the sunshine and burgers, I always take a quiet moment to remember what Memorial Day is truly about: honoring the lives of those who served and sacrificed. Whether you're hosting, traveling, or just taking it slow at home, I’ve got some fresh ideas and recipes to make your long weekend delicious and meaningful.
What's Happening
This week was a week of "firsts".
Walt, our family's new addition, made it through his first week. He also had his first vet appointment, which was interesting because we discovered that he has only been to a vet twice in six years.
Walt also had his first day at daycare. We send the dogs to daycare for playtime twice a week. This allows me to recipe test, photograph, and cook for you without the dogs getting in my way and trying to grab food, lol. Walt is especially food-motivated, which makes setting food out to photograph challenging!
Walt went to the groomer for the first time as well. While he was completely adorable when we rescued him, his grooming was uneven. We are having him trimmed, and then we will grow his hair out to a nice length.
Yesterday, we went to our first farmers market of the season. While the produce we love and buy wasn't all there yet, it was great to see some of my favorite vendors who had returned. We were also happy to see a vendor we had met at another market who had decided to switch to our regular weekend market. This made us soooo happy.
We also went to our first art fair of the season. This is another fun thing hubby and I love to do on the weekends!
Our day tomorrow will be quiet and restful. Having a new dog is our priority for the next couple of weeks until he settles into our life. Poppy is enjoying having him around and they are already acting like a brother and a sister!

Links I Am Loving This Week
- This made me laugh so hard! Really????
- Every time I go and grab a battery I am always wondering why there isn't a "B" battery. This article explains the reason!
- I had no idea. Did you know that your microwave may have a secret door?
- While I don't love carbs, knowing that I can make rice healthier had me reading this article.

Products I Am Loving
I decided to break these products out this week as it's Memorial Day weekend and can we say "sales"? These are some of my favorites that I use in my house and highly recommend for Memorial Day or Father's Day!
- I like using grass-fed, grass-finished beef and this company sends me beef when I want it. While it is a subscription, I only order it around once a quarter and the meat is delicious!
- I love Lodge Cast Iron. I was lucky enough to receive a griddle and grill pan from them last week. I am going to buy some more pans from them this summer. They work beautifully!
- I use Redmond Salt in my kitchen. I love the high mineral content and the variety of their blends. It's my "go-to" salt. Use the discount cod ASTSalt for a discount of your next purchase!
- I can't say enough about Burlap and Barrel spices. Again, these are a must have in my house. I love how fresh they are they have more flavor than store-bought brands.
- My favorite meat thermometer is Thermopen One! It's accurate and super easy to use.
