We are in Colombia, South America and having a blast!
What's Happening
We left last weekend and headed for Medellín, Colombia! It is a large city situated in the Andes Mountains. Many of the homes are built up on the sides of the mountains, and it is gorgeous!
On Tuesday we took a tour of one of the Comunas (how the city is divided), saw local dancers, ate local food, and visited some shops. We also rode a cable car to the top of the mountains to look down over the valley and all of Medellín. We ended the day with a stop at Plaza Botero. Botero was an artist that created statues that are hilarious! You can see one in the pictures.
We met with the Airbnb owner who cared for our son while he was living in Medellín during Covid. Her family was wonderfully welcoming. She fed us tamales, arepas, and empanadas. All home-cooked and extremely delicious. Our family will stay in touch with her family for many more years to come.
We visited a coffee farm and tasted Honey coffee. Have you ever tried it? We also toured, on our own, another Comuna, which was crazzzzy with tourists and the Botanic Gardens. It's been really fun so far.
On Thursday, we flew to Cartagena, Colombia, and spent two more days touring the city, including the walled city which is the traditional city center. Cartagena is extremely different from Medellin. Cartagena reminds me of being in the Caribbean between the people, the colors, the music, and of course the food.
Hubby and I kept comparing Cartagena with our trip to Cuba a few years back. Colorful buildings, lots of flowers, and, of course, the ocean.

Links And Products I Am Loving
- We have been debating whether our kids will be able to afford a starter home in the next couple of years. This article actually popped up (I sometimes wonder about that, lol) about the same time which addressed this issue.
- Have you ever wondered if restaurants save the best tables for reservations? I always wondered!
- While traveling, I always take a few things that are NOT optional. The first is a good sling bag or fanny pack. I also take my backpack, sunscreen, and my Ipad.
- I have been looking for a high-quality olive oil that I can firmly recommend that you try. Laconiko is that brand. I have some in my cart that I am ordering!
- I am also a huge fan of Primal Kitchen dressings and marinades. I use their Greek and Italian dressings as marinades for chicken all the time!
